Gibson offered the “Collector’s Choice” Line Up from 2010-2017 where they reissued some choice examples of 1958-1960 Gibson Les Paul “Bursts” that Collector’s Owned. Many of them have unique names based on the story of the guitar. We dive into all of those tales in this episode of The Trogly’s Guitar Show.
Quick Facts:
42 Models were created based on 39 Guitars.
3 had two separate issuings as Aged + VOS (Non-Aged) CC1, CC29, CC4. All other models had aging of varying extremities based on the original guitar.
8 of the guitars were not your usual “Bursts” featuring 2 Goldtops, Painted Over Black Burst, Firebird III, Les Paul Custom, ES-335, DC LP Junior, and a ’68 Les Paul. CC10, CC12, CC19, CC22, CC34, CC36, CC42, CC47
Most were planned to have 300 replicas created, but that number wasn’t always met. Oftentimes, far fewer were made. The SMALLEST run was 25 of CC42
Some unsold units were later repurposed by Gibson as other “Reissues.” Many of these weren’t all that popular with the guitar-buying crowd when new and see little demand on the used market at premium prices. However, there are heavy hitters like CC1 that fetch FAR MORE than the original MSRP
CC20, CC21, CC23, CC25, CC27, CC32, CC40, CC41 numbers were all skipped. These Collector’s Choice models DO NOT exist.
While the Collector’s Choice models started in order, they were NOT published in order.
