2024 Schecter Machine Gun Kelly Razor Blade

New for 2024 – Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) and Schecter have partnered up once again to create his third signature guitar! This time, it isn’t an acoustic or tele… but a RAZOR BLADE-shaped guitar? Yup. He states that the only time he truly feels calm is while he is shaving and it references one of his new songs so he thought it was a good idea.

The internet didn’t like this idea though as many felt it had self-harm elements despite that not being the artist’s intentions.
Triggers are very real and if that is how you view this guitar, please, do skip this episode. When I think of a razor blade, I think of a box cutter and I’ve carried one of those with me everywhere for over half my life! It makes me feel prepared – however, the way you “play” this guitar lines your arms up in a not-so-pleasant way.

Is it a comfortable guitar to play? Not really.
It is neck-heavy and the action wasn’t very good when I got it. The tone is very BRIGHT and CUTTING, but dialed in right – can sound good. The fretwork overall was quite pleasing. Nice and shiny out of the box. The body shape is comfortable enough to play, but the upper fret access is bad.
If you don’t like the razor blade esthetic… you could always remove the pickguard is you wanted to and make it look like some sort of Steinberger guitar… but with a headstock!

Overall… If you’re a big MGK or controversial guitar fan, this could be perfect… however, I bet his Tele would be a better option for most people… and $500 cheaper!
It truly reminds me of the Roswell Rhoades Jackson or “Lawsuit Proof”
I was quite surprised the razor blade was so small!

The Machine Gun Kelly Schecter Razor Blade was $1499 brand new. A case was available as an optional upgrade. I got a chuckle seeing Sweetwater say they can get it for you… but they aren’t going to stock it otherwise … smart move!

My review example was purchased at a different dealer that was ballsy enough to stock not only one but THREE at launch. While I was fully prepared to take a loss on this guitar for the privilege of documenting controversial/weird guitar history – the example I was sent as “new” had clearly been played before and had some bad QC… which was surprising from Schecter.

The bridge was also installed crooked
I also found it annoying that the protective plastic film was removed from the pickguard portion, but just hastily ripped off from around the bridge. The only way to remove that ugly, eye sore was to take the whole bridge off! I feel Schecter should design a film that goes AROUND the bridge portion because most people would just have to live with the residual film looking tacky around it because the removal process is quite time-consuming
